How Do I Open and Use the Searchable PDF SolarDoc Database?
  1. Download the database file by clicking the download link sent to your email inbox
  2. On your computer, go to your Downloads folder
  3. Double click on the file named "INSTRUCTIONS – extract all then double-click on the index.htm file – SolarDoc Database.zip"
NOTE: This is a ".zip" file type, and you need to "unzip" or "extract" it in order to use the database
   4.  Depending on your computer (Windows, Mac, Android, Linux, etc.) the program that opens the file will vary
   5.  Somewhere on the screen you should see the option to "Extract"
   6.  Click "Extract" and if given the option, extract all
NOTE: If you have difficulty extracting, or would like to learn more, here are basic tutorials of what a ".zip" file is and what it means to "extract" it:
TUTORIAL A https://www.wikihow.com/Unzip-a-File (for Mac and Linux instructions, scroll down);
TUTORIAL B https://www.wikihow.com/Open-a-Zip-File (for iPad and Android tablet instructions, scroll down);
TUTORIAL C https://www.wikihow.com/Unzip-Files-on-Windows (in-depth instructions for Windows)

   8.  Double click the folder "SolarDoc Database"
   9.  Double click the file named "index.htm"
   10. Every time you want to use the Database, start again at STEP 8
   11. Enjoy!
NOTE: If the text of the Hot Topic Index (Browse the Database by Topic) is out of alignment, increase the width of your browser window (make it full screen), or reduce the size of text viewed in your browser window.
How Do I Print and Bind a Yak Mountain Press eBook?
PLEASE NOTE: We investigated the startup costs of printing and selling hard-copy books and they are prohibitive. In order to create a publishing venture from scratch and keep The Atomic Trekker and the companion books affordable, we had to make the difficult choice to publish eBooks only for now.
  1. Download the eBook file by clicking the download link sent to your email inbox
  2. Get a thumb drive, also known as a flash drive or a memory stick (make sure you have enough space for the eBook file)
  3. Copy and Paste the file onto the thumb drive
NOTE: If you have difficulty doing this, or would like to learn more, here are basic tutorials showing step-by-step instructions:
TUTORIAL A https://www.wikihow.com/Copy-Documents-to-a-USB-Flash-Drive-from-Your-Computer (for Mac instructions, scroll down)
TUTORIAL B https://www.wikihow.com/Add-Files-to-a-Memory-Stick (the same basic instructions for both Windows/PC and Mac, but arranged and written differently, in case the first tutorial didn't help you)
   4.  Safely remove the thumb drive from your computer
NOTE: If you have difficulty doing this, or would like to learn more, here are basic tutorials showing step-by-step instructions:
TUTORIAL A https://www.wikihow.com/Remove-a-Flash-Drive-from-a-Windows-10-Computer (Windows)
TUTORIAL B https://www.wikihow.com/Eject-a-Flash-Drive-from-a-Mac (Mac)
   5.  Take the thumb drive with you to your local Staples or any local store that has a "Print Center." This can include a mom-and-pop shop, Office Depot, Office Max, FedEx Kinkos, etc.
   6.  Ask for help printing and binding a book
   7.  Give the printing person the thumb drive, and tell them the name of the eBook file you want them to print and the number of pages
   8.  Ask for plain paper, decide whether or not you want full color (ask about the price difference), and ask them to spiral-bind the book once it is printed
NOTE: Spiral binding is the most inexpensive, and the most sturdy binding you can ask for. Plus, it is a pleasure to read and reference a book that will lay flat.
   9.  As part of the spiral binding, ask for a clear acetate cover sheet and a stiff/sturdy back cover
   10. Enjoy!
